Walking into Indie Indie Bang Bang took me back to my childhood. As a kid, I can remember waking up early mornings to watch Inspector Gadget. I would and marvel at his ever-growing arsenal of items. Anytime he was in a jam he would find a way, or gadget, to help him escape. Just as he had something for every situation, Indie Indie Bang Bang is a one-stop shop with something for everyone.
The location is in the burgeoning business district of the Miller Beach section of Gary, Indiana. The exact address is 65 South Lake Street, and it’s not far from the Indiana Dunes. Indie is surrounded by fine eateries, art, and arguably the best brewery chain in Northwest Indiana—18th Street Brewery. Business thus far has been very well, and the owners have recently opened a second location in Valparaiso, Indiana at 19 East Lincolnway.
As a customer, and tea aficionado, the beautifully arranged gourmet teas on display instantly drew me to Indie. My past travels have taken me to tea plantations in Sri Lanka, Costa Rica, and throughout East Asia. So, assuming that I have had every tea imaginable to man, the new tea I discovered at Indie Indie Bang Bang was a surprise—popcorn tea. The owner explained that it was an exclusive green tea hybrid. It actually had corn grains included in the tea bag. The added “pop” provided a unique corn flavor and it definitely passed the flavor test.
Upon speaking with one of the owners, Dan Trutter, his vision of the shop is clear. He wants to create a place with:
“Something for everyone…with varying price points and selections.”
Additionally, he has taken his art background into the concept of shop. In doing so, he has truly infused the décor with life. So whether you’re searching for that elusive flavor of tea that you’ve never tried, clothing, regionally-sourced artisanal gourmet condiments, accessories, jewelry, or gifts…Indie Indie Bang Bang is the place for you.

Oooh is that a play on the old Ia Fleming classic musical film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? It was about a car made of odds, bits and pieces. Anyway, what totally blew my mind away in your post was the popcorn tea. I mean, that’s just wild.
I’ll have to go back and re watch that movie!
What caught my eyes was the teapigs tea pack. I love their teas. It sounds like a great store to go hang out in and get good stuff.
