Before you rush to dictionary.com to see if travelution is really a word I’ll save you the trouble. It’s not. What it is; however, is a combination of travel, resolution and revolution all rolled into one. After the year we’ve just had, I think it’s easy to say a vacation, at any point, in 2021 is much needed! Whether you plan to jet-set right away or ease your way back into things—here are 21 vacation destinations for 2021 that you can add to your travel lists.

The Grand Canyon

I’ve visited this natural beauty each of the past two years and both times it hasn’t disappointed. From snow-capped cliffs to a scenic sunset morning, the Grand Canyon is a place you can spend minutes, hours, or even days just lost in admiration of its wonder.

Page, Arizona

Quiet reflection at Horseshoe Bend

If you are like me and like to kill multiple travel birds with one stone, Page, Arizona is just 3.5 hours away from the Grand Canyon. While not as vast, the small town of Page packs a powerful punch.  Located just a few miles from the Utah state line, it’s easy to pop over the border and grab a quick picture under both the Welcome to Utah and Welcome to Arizona signs. Also on the list of 21 vacation destinations for 2021 to see in Page are: The Glen Canyon Dam, Horseshoe Bend, and Antelope Canyon—the latter of which requires booking a guided tour that is a bit pricey, but well worth the admission.

Egypt

I owe a lot to Egypt. It opened my eyes to the world of international travel several years ago as a bright-eyed, 18-year-old college student. The hospitality, food, culture, and history of Egypt as a collective whole are unmatched. For anyone seeking a destination to consider as their entry point into the African continent, Egypt is an excellent choice.

While on the topics of rich culture and Africa, Ethiopia ranks right up there with Egypt. From the bustling city of Addis Ababa to the ancient kingdom of Gondar to the rock-cut churches of Lalibela and more, Ethiopia is an under-rated destination that easily earns its rightful place among the 21 vacation destinations for 2021.

Tanzania

Seeking travel inspiration? Adventure motivation? Or perhaps simply searching for beach relaxation? Tanzania provides all three. Venture to the rooftop of Africa by hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro or enjoy a peaceful island escape to Zanzibar while visiting this beautiful nation.

The unique thing about planning a trip to Mexico is that you can either drive or fly into this nation when traveling from America. With that in mind, for those not quite ready for a long-haul international flight, Mexico is just a few hours distance by air from many major American cities.

Easily one of my favorite countries in Central America. If the rooftop of Africa is out of reach, Guatemala offers a perfect entry point into the world of hiking. Lush mountains and historic sites abound this colorful nation that is also home to the easily climbable tallest mountain in Central America.

New York City

The Big Apple

The Big Apple. Gotham city. The city that never sleeps. Well—actually the transition from 2020 to 2021 is the first time the ball dropped in Times Square with a good chance that many people were, in fact, already asleep—due to safety protocols related to large crowds gathering together. In light of such drastic measures, there is no doubt that once the dust settles a bit more, people will be hungry to once again take a bite out of the Big Apple.

Hilton Head Island

You can’t go wrong when southern charm combines with natural beauty and white sand beaches. Hilton Head Island, South Carolina has been named America’s best island for four straight years and shows no signs of relinquishing that title.

True story: I saw the most beautiful sunset of my life in Hawaii. The picture above is a photographic capture of that moment, but it doesn’t even begin to do it justice. The landscape and scenery combined with the serenity of the Hawaiian Islands make them as memorable as that picture.

Alaska

Northern Lights, northern sites, and northern adventures await in this destination. If you can brave the cold, the majestic beauty of this massive state more than make up for any momentary shivers.

Greece

Athens is often overlooked for more exotic Island locations in Greece, which is a huge mistake in my opinion. Places like Mykonos, Santorini, and Halkidiki are no doubt stunning, but get the most bang for your buck by combining some of those idyllic locations with a few days of exploration in the capital and driving to some nearby cities.

France

“But I’ve heard the French are sooo rude.” Well, in my experience, people around the world are pretty hospitable as long as you come correct. And I would hate for someone to miss out on all that France has to offer based on hearsay. Take a stroll in the city of love, Paris, or venture out into the French countryside for a secluded getaway.

This just in: you don’t have to actually visit France to experience it! A trip to Quebec offers the same charm and culture of France in a much more accessible area for many North Americans to venture to. In addition to that, in winter the city transforms into one of the most picturesque winter wonderlands you will ever see.

This tiny, alpine Swiss village is carved right out of heaven. Actress Julie Andrews once referred to Gstaad as, “The last paradise in a crazy world” and truer words were never spoken. If you’re into winter sports—GO! If you prefer summer hikes—GO! Looking for a place to take a fall wellness retreat—GO! Long story short, Gstaad, Switzerland is a trip-worthy place that should be on your travel calendar.
